Winter Arrives Late; Desert Expects Rain; Mountains Snow
Winter 2021 has been pretty mild but 2 cold storms are pushing into the region in late January 2021.
The first winter storm is forecast for parts of Riverside County beginning Friday January 22nd 2021 bringing with it the possibility of up to 8 inches of snow in areas above 4,000 feet.
A Winter Weather Advisory goes into effect at 10 p.m. Friday January 22nd 2021 with the possibility of light snow falling along busy freeways and mountain passes, including along Interstate 15 through Cajon Pass, where snowfall of at least 1 to 3
inches is expected, according to the National Weather Service.
The NWS said an extra 3 to 8 inches of snow could fall above 5,000 feet elevation.
Communities where heavy snowfall is anticipated include Idyllwild-Pine Cove in Riverside County and Crestline, Lake Arrowhead, Big Bear City, Big Bear Lake, Running Springs and Wrightwood in nearby San Bernardino County.
A more intense and colder winter storm is expected to move across Southern California Sunday night January 24th 2021 through Monday evening January 25th 2021.
The Coachella Valley is expecting some light rain from both storms, but most of the heavy rain will fall west of Mt San Jacinto.
