American taxpayers, via the federal government,  are sending more than 1 billion dollars to a Maryland company as it works to develop a coronavirus vaccine.

Novavax will receive one-point-six-billion-dollars so advanced human studies can be conducted.

The money will also help the company produce and deliver 100 million vaccine doses by the end of this year.

The news has sent Novavax shares soaring on Wall Street.
