Welcome to my nightmare.
Yet another creepy crawler visited me last night just before bedtime. This time a MUCH larger creature…on my bathroom floor! The minute I saw him, I screamed, ran into the kitchen and grabbed a cup. Upon my return, he had crawled into my closet. Luckily I was able to trap him before he could hide between the shoe boxes. At this point, I slipped some paper under the cup and took the thick 3 inch creature outside and walked him across the street to let him loose in the open space.
Crisis averted, however all I could think about were the bug’s family members. Are there more lurking in my house? Not a great night’s sleep.
This morning I showed Gene Nichols the pic and he tells me it’s a palmetto bug. Of course I had to google it:
Palmetto bugs are roaches, and roaches are attracted to two main things: water and food. You have a kitchen pantry stocked with food and pipes that bring you fresh water. Your home is like a five-star resort for palmetto bugs.
If you’re seeing roaches in your home, there’s a good chance you have food lying around somewhere that’s attracting them.
And If you have a leaking pipe somewhere in your home, they may be attracted by that as well.
Great. And I thought I was a good housekeeper! I am going home to scrub my floors.
