Mountain Roads Impacted By Damage, Repairs

If you are heading to Big Bear or Lake Arrowhead, there is emergency road work taking place on State Route 189, after some of the hills gave way June 3rd 2022. Caltrans calls it slope erosion.

 

State Route 189 was being used as the alternate route to State Route 18 which is closed due to slope erosion there.

 

Skanska Corporation is handling repairs on both roads, performing work from 6 a-m to 6 p-m.

 

Repairs on State Route 189 could take one month to complete.

 

Count on one just one lane being open during construction, though at times, full closures might be necessary.

 

Your best bet is to use State Route 330 to get to Lake Arrowhead, Running Springs or Big Bear.
