Junk Food Precipitates Mental Decline
A new study shows that eating highly processed foods could be linked to faster cognitive decline.
The research comes from the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference in San Diego.
It shows participants who got 20-percent or more of their daily calories from processed foods saw a faster drop in cognitive performance over six to ten years than people who didn’t eat as much of them.
Foods under that category include white bread, fried snacks, candy, hot dogs, and other processed meats.
Also, many of the new plant-based foods that are becoming popular, are heavily-processed with loads of additives.
Those types of foods make up 58-percent of all calories consumed in the U.S., according to a 2016 study.
