John Isner Departs BNP Paribas Open For Birth Of His Child; Upsets Oust Big Names In Women’s Draw

On the road to crowning the champions at the BNP Paribas Open, just about anything can happen.

 

American John Isner was set for singles play and a doubles match with John Sock in Indian Wells.

 

Until he got the call that his wife was going to be delivering the couple’s 3rd child early.  So Isner withdrew from the tournament, got onboard a flight heading to Dallas so he could be there today for the delivery.

 

The other matches ended in more traditional fashion, albeit with some wind and some rain, and some cool temps too.

 

Among the winners on the men’s side included Daniel Medvedev, Casper Rude went 3 sets to beat Lloyd Harris, and American Tommy Paul.

 

Americans Reilly Opelka and Frances Tiafoe lost in singles play, while Sam Querry and Steve Johnson lost in doubles.

 

On the women’s side, lots of upsets.

Karolina Pliskova is out.

Bianca Andrescoo of Canada lost.

So did Americans Coco Gauff, Danielle Collins and Amanda Anisimova.

 

Angelique Kerber advanced with a win.

 

Tuesday’s play begins at 11 at Stadium 1, as American Jessica Pegula is in action, followed by a match pitting American Shelby Rodgers against Canada’s Leyla Fernandez.

 

3rd match of the day at Stadium 1 pits 2 Olympic gold medalists, Andy Murray against Alexander Zerev.  Tonight you can watch Angelique Kerber and Stafanos Tsitsipas in action.

 

This afternoon at Stadium 3, Victoria Azarenka vs Aliaksandra Sasnovich.
