I-10 Work Continues Through Summer

Hot or not, the I-10 Tuneup reconstruction continues. Motorists planning to travel on westbound Interstate 10 between Beaumont and the Coachella Valley can expect more lane closure overnight.

 

It’s all part of the long-term project that is resurfacing I-10 from Highway 111 on the outskirts of Palm Springs to the split with the 60 Freeway in Beaumont and Moreno Valley.

 

This project started before the Covid-19 pandemic arrived, and  crews have been gradually making improvements to nearly 20 miles of the 10 Freeway.

 

Caltrans does most of the work from 7 at night until 6:30 in the morning.

 

But there are still crews out during daytime hours doing spot work.

 

A roughly six-mile temporary crossover lane on westbound I-10 is set up between Banning and Cabazon remains in use.

 

The lanes are narrow, with no shoulder space.

 

The I-10 Tune-Up includes replacing guardrails, repaving outside

lanes, replacing slabs in inside lanes and upgrading various on- and off-ramps to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

 

The $210 million project is primarily funded by the state gas tax and the remainder through federal tax funds as well as some additional funding from State of California taxpayers.

 

Work is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2022.
