A species of dinosaur that was discovered three years ago has an interesting feature: a tail that could be used as a weapon.

Remains of the Stegouros elengassen revealed that the tail of the species had plaques of bones on both sides, perfect for protection and fighting.

“The tail was covered with seven pairs of osteoderms … producing a weapon absolutely different from anything we know in any dinosaur,” said researcher Alexander Vargas.

80 percent of the dinosaur’s remains have been found.
