Despite Heat & Wind, Firefighters Taming Apple Fire; Now 55% Contained

The Apple Fire which started in Cherry Valley on Friday, July 31st is now 50% contained as of 8:30 a-m on Tuesday, August 11th, 2020.

 

It has burned 33,234 acres, about 51.9 square miles in the San Bernardino National Forest and surrounding areas.

 

Full containment is expected on Monday, August 17th, 2020.

 

The US Forest Service and CalFire are demobilizing, cutting staffing down to 1,719 firefighters.

 

Hot, dry, blustery conditions persist, as the fire slowly creeps toward the northeast.

 

All evacuation orders and warnings have been lifted, as containment lines are holding the fire at bay, and helicopters continue to drop water in remote areas.
