The following statistics were reported by the Riverside County Public Health Department on Monday afternoon July 6th, 2020, and they include numbers from the July 4th holiday weekend.

California has 40 million residents.   Nearly 4.8 million of them have been tested for Covid-19, that’s roughly 12% of the population.


California has 271,684 positive cases for Covid-19, which is 5.6% of the people who have been tested so far.  About 4 and a half million Californians have tested negative for Covid-19, which is about 94% of the people who have been tested to date.

California has 6,337 deaths from Covid-19, which is 2.3% of those who have tested positive, and 1/10th of 1% of the 4.8 million people who have been tested in California

Since the Covid-19 pandemic began, Riverside County has had 20,555 people test positive for the virus.

Of those 20,555 people who have tested positive in Riverside County, 42.3% of them, 8,711,  have fully recovered.

52.8% of them, 10,863, are at home recovering and are not getting any medical assistance.   Together, that’s 95.1% of all the positive cases.

2.4% of the people who have tested positive so far in Riverside County, 495 people, remain hospitalized, and 130 of them are in Intensive Care.

2.3% of the people who have tested positive so far in Riverside County, 486 people, have died from Covid-19.

259,183 people have been tested for Covid-19 in Riverside County as of Tuesday morning July 7th 2020,  and 7.9% of them, 20,555, have tested positive 238,628 people have tested negative, which is 92%of the people tested.

10.3% of Riverside County’s population has been tested for Covid-19.  That’s 259,183 people out of a population of 2.5 million people.

6,005 cases are in the Coachella Valley.

766 cases are in unincorporated areas of the desert;

(Mecca 196 cases and 5 deaths, Thermal 81 cases, Oasis 131 cases,  North Shore 68 cases and 1 death, Bermuda Dunes 54 cases and 1 death, Thousand Palms 65 cases, Vista Santa Rosa 47 cases and 1 death, Garnet 70 cases, Desert Palms 23 cases and 1 death, Desert Edge 19 cases and 1 death, and Sky Valley 12 cases)


5,239 cases are in cities:

366 cases in Palm Springs, 16 dead

112 cases in Rancho Mirage, 12 dead

733 cases in Cathedral City, 5 dead

484 cases in Palm Desert, 30 dead

1,592 cases in Indio, 35 dead

332 cases in La Quinta, 11 dead

331 cases in Desert Hot Springs, 3 dead

1,267 cases in Coachella,  11 dead

22 in Indian Wells, no deaths

9 cases in Idyllwild/Pine Cove

22 cases in Cabazon, 1 dead


In Riverside County:


8,711  people have recovered from the Covid-19 virus.

10,863 people are quarantined at home in various stages of recovery.


There have been 486 deaths linked to Covid-19 in Riverside County as of Tuesday morning July 7th, 2020.  213 are women, 273 are men.


133 of those deaths are in the Coachella Valley.   123 deaths in cities, 10 deaths in unincorporated areas…5 in Mecca,  1 in Vista Santa Rosa, 1 in Bermuda Dunes, 1 in Desert Palms, 1 in Desert Edge, and 1 in North Shore.


495 people are hospitalized (that includes 4 people from Imperial County and 10 from county jails), 130 people are in ICU.

259,183 people have been tested so far in Riverside County

Riverside County has 2,018 cases in nursing homes, with 1,243 cases among patients, and 775 cases among staff. The overwhelming majority of nursing home cases, 6806 cases, are in the City of Riverside.

In Coachella Valley nursing facilities, there have been 139 cases in Palm Desert, 58 in Palm Springs, 50 in Indio,  46 in Rancho Mirage…27 patients and 15 staff from Vista Cove Assisted Living in Rancho Mirage, and another 12 patients and 4 staff at Rancho Mirage Terrace, and 20 in La Quinta.

All testing is free to the patient being tested. Be patient, you might have to wait a while to get an appointment.

Drive-thru testing is available by appointment only at the Riverside County Fairgrounds in Indio from 9 a-m to 3 p-m Tuesday through Saturday, by appt only. You can also get tested at the Cathedral City Library on Date Palm Drive.
