CA Restaurants Want Permit Fees Refunded In Wake Of Lockdown, Pandemic

California’s restaurant industry is asking for refunds.

Restaurants forced to close due to the COVID-19 pandemic and government lockdown, have filed claims to recover more than 100-million in fees for liquor, health permits and tourism charges that have been levied on them, even though they were shut down or only partially operating under the state’s coronavirus health orders.

Restaurant owners say it’s not fair they’re being charged for permits they can’t use.

Right now, counties with the highest COVID-19 infection rates are limited to outdoor dining only, and take-out and curbside pickup.
