What's In YOUR Wallet?
If you're like me, everytime you get your mail, you probably end up throwing out a bunch of junk-mail from credit card companies. But, this lady in Aurora, Illinois, noticed she wasn't the only one in her family getting credit card applications. They were also being sent to her son who was only 6 years old.
So, like any caring mother who wants her son to build good credit, she asked him to fill out the application truthfully, just to see what would happen.
He wrote that his birthday was in 2002. He wasn't a homeowner or a renter and his annual income was $0. When he was done, the application was covered in the sloppy handwriting of a 6-year-old, but his mom sent it out anyway.
A few weeks later, her son received a new credit card from Bank of America with a $600 limit. When his mom contacted the bank about the mishap, they said it wasn't their policy to issue credit cards to a minor - but there was no word if the card was actually cancelled.
You know, how much does that suck for anyone who's ever applied for a credit card and gotten denied? That means the banks trust a 6-year-old with a card more that YOU.
See ya on the radio...
